Hearts & Hands Cleaning/Gardening Day | Living Abraham's Legacy

On Saturdays June 8th and 15th we will be hosting our annual cleaning/gardening days at the Rhoda Masjid from 10 am to 1 pm. It is our tradition to take the opportunity of the Hajj (pilgrimage) season to connect with the profound legacy of Prophet Abraham, his work and his story.

In The Qur'an, Surah 22 Verse 26* we Hear God speaking to our Father Abraham, and mankind, about His House, The House of God and asking him to take care of it, clean it, and preserve its sanctity. In this verse, God refers to the Sanctuary of the Ka'ba, all the Houses of God and our very own hearts, as some have explained.

In these blessed days of Dhul-Hijjah, we invite you to a deep cleaning/gardening day. Come and show some love to the house of God that was brought near to you on days thousands are travelling so far away to circle the first house of God on earth…

You will get the opportunity to meet our new masjid caretaker, Brother Kheiruddin, a wonderful soul who has been doing such a beautiful job in caring for this sacred space. Come out to show him support and love, and bring your child who is of age to learn chores and responsibilities to learn this important act of service and to say thank you.

It is also a perfect opportunity to nurture in them a dynamic relationship with the Qur’an, and especially with Surah 2, verse 125* in which God gives Abraham and his son, Ishmael, a great mission in service of all seekers and humanity.

*S.2 V.125: “And when We made the House (the Ka’ba) a retreat for mankind and sanctuary, (saying): Take as your place of worship the place where Abraham stood (to pray). And We entrusted upon Abraham and Ishmael the mission to “Purify My house for those who come seeking Me, and those who meditate therein, and those who bow down and prostrate themselves (in worship).”

وَإِذْ جَعَلْنَا ٱلْبَيْتَ مَثَابَةًۭ لِّلنَّاسِ وَأَمْنًۭا وَٱتَّخِذُوا۟ مِن مَّقَامِ إِبْرَٰهِـۧمَ مُصَلًّۭى ۖ وَعَهِدْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِـۧمَ وَإِسْمَـٰعِيلَ أَن طَهِّرَا بَيْتِىَ لِلطَّآئِفِينَ وَٱلْعَـٰكِفِينَ وَٱلرُّكَّعِ ٱلسُّجُودِ

*S.22 V26: “...And purify My House for those who come around seeking, those who are near meditating, and those who are within prostrating.”

وَطَهِّرْ بَيْتِىَ لِلطَّآئِفِينَ وَٱلْقَآئِمِينَ وَٱلرُّكَّعِ ٱلسُّجُودِ
