Program Elements

We are excited to announce the launch of our Community Composting Program at Zahra Ecological Farm! This initiative aims to reduce waste and create nutrient-rich compost for our farm, and we need your help to make it a success.

How You Can Participate:

  • Collecting Food Scraps: Each family will receive a 5-gallon bin to fill with food scraps throughout the week. Acceptable food scraps include vegetable and fruit peels, coffee grounds, tea bags, eggshells, and non-greasy food scraps. (Please avoid meat, dairy, oily foods, and processed foods.)

  • Drop-off Schedule: Drop off your filled bins every Sunday at the Rhoda or Farm. You will receive a clean bin to take home for the next week.

  • Composting Process: We will layer the food scraps with wood mulch (carbon source) to create a balanced compost pile. Our goal is to collect about 13-14 bins of food scraps each week to maintain a healthy compost system.

Benefits of Participation:

  • Reduce waste and support sustainable farming practices.
  • Learn about composting and contribute to the health of our farm.
  • Be a part of our growing community focused on regenerative practices.

Please confirm your participation by RSVP'ing to this meeting. If you can't make the orientation, no worries, we will follow up.

If you have any questions or need more information, feel free to reach out to Stephane at slpressault@rhoda-foundation.org.
